About our Panelists
Andrea Creel, Founder of Shining Kids Yoga, MSW, LMSW, E-RYT 200, YACEP
Andrea Creel is the founder of Shining Kids Yoga, an after-school yoga program for children based in Maryland. She has been teaching yoga to adults and children since 2005, and has taught hundreds of children throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area as well as via online platforms. She is the creator and facilitator of the Shining Kids Yoga Teacher Training & Apprenticeship Program and also serves on the teacher training faculty at extendYoga in Rockville, MD.
Andrea has been a guest lecturer on the topic of yoga & mind-body medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), as well as an invited presenter at the Association of Standardized Patient Educators National Conference on the topic of mind-body practices. In addition to her career as a yoga educator, Andrea is also a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LMSW), having received her MSW degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
Jamar Malcolm Peete, Holistic Life Foundation
Jamar is the Manager of Executive Support at the Holistic Life Foundation. He has been a yoga and mindfulness instructor with the Holistic Life Foundation and was one of the original members involved in the HLF’s Holistic Me after school program. Jamar has traveled nationally and internationally, leading residency’s and conducting speaking engagements with HLF’s vision. Not to mention, he has facilitated each of HLF's programs and continues to outreach services to communities, schools and companies looking to experience mindful practices. Born and raised in West Baltimore, Jamar attended Limestone College in South Carolina after graduating from Walbrook High School. Receiving several accolades, he was honored First team All- American & Senior Captain of the 2014 National Lacrosse Championship team. He graduated with a BS in Business Administration and Sports Management and later obtained his Health Coaching certification with the Institute for Integrative Health and pursues his Personal Training certification with NASM.
Lara Hocheiser, Founder of Flow and Grow Kids Yoga, E-RTY, RCYT
My Yoga Workbook series, and hundreds of lesson plans, blogs, and courses. The curriculum and lesson plans Lara has written have been adopted by thousands of individuals, schools, and school districts nationwide. Lara graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Spanish from Roanoke College (Salem, VA). After she received certification as a Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RTY, RCYT), she started her own business, Flow and Grow Kids Yoga, and garnered notoriety for her training programs across the Northeast, which are now offered virtually. Lara has trained more than 300 people in the field of children’s yoga.
Lara has worked in the early childhood education sector for 19 years and has over 15 years of experience studying, teaching, and living the yoga path. She has taught more than 9,000 early childhood classes to date. Lara’s blog won the #5 kids yoga blog worldwide, claiming this title based on editorial choice for the free, high-quality resources, illustrations of children of all walks of life, tips for parents and teachers, and interviews. She follows a secular model to teach focus, relaxation, and healthy habits to educators, parents, children, and clinicians.

Maia Horsager, Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher at Prodeo Academy & Founder of Kumarah Yoga
Maia is a 7th year Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher at Prodeo Academy in Minneapolis, MN. She has been teaching yoga, mindfulness, and movement full-time to kids for over 8 years. She has trained in Yoga Calm, Little Lotus, Super Stretch, Street Yoga, Baptiste, KiddingAround Yoga, and Mindful Schools. She received her YTT certification from Green Lotus Yoga and Healing Center 10 years ago.
Maia is also the founder of Kumarah Yoga, an online resource for kids yoga and mindfulness teachers in studios and public schools around the world. She writes articles and kids yoga lesson plans, plus designs mindfulness resources and free materials with many available in her Free Resources Library.
Maia also leads teachers in an Online Kids Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher Training. She loves helping teachers learn new ways to add yoga and mindfulness into their curriculum, and also help established kids yoga teachers deepen their training. She is especially passionate about teaching yoga to kids with an equity mindset, making sure that yoga can be accessible to all kids of all backgrounds. In her free time, Maia enjoys reading, camping, hiking, and spending time with her cats, which she three.
Loraine is a leading authority on yoga for children and teens. Over the past 25 years, she's spent over 20,000 hours teaching 1000’s of kids of all ages. She has trained thousands of yoga teachers, school teachers, parents and others who work with children throughout the world on how to teach yoga in a way that is meaningful, impactful and fun.
Loraine has authored over 35 articles on the benefits of yoga for children and team for the Australian Yoga Journal and Australian Yoga Life Magazine. Her mission is to impact the lives of millions of children worldwide.
Melissa Shah, Program Director, Yoga Foster
Originally from NYC, Melissa grew up in the public school system, and experienced firsthand the often lack of space for play and connection to self. She was fortunate enough to have yoga as a part of her family culture, and started practicing at an early age. This inspired her to study yoga more deeply in her 20s and begin teaching kids. Having taught kids yoga in all sorts of spaces, her favorite environment is in the classroom – in their daily habitat. Melissa strongly believes in adapting yoga to the individual and their environment, so that it can be a normalized part of their day and feel accessible to them. Her yoga teaching background is diverse, with training in various therapeutic traditions, prenatal, kids, and trauma. Melissa also holds a Master of Public Health in Health Policy, which fuels her passion to serve causes that are making positive changes in population health.
Shari Vilchez-Blatt, Founder & Director of Karma Kids Yoga
Shari was a VP, Advertising Director before completely changing her path. She left for the opportunity to combine two things that are close to her heart - yoga and children and has been teaching kids yoga for 20 years. Shari can turn any task into something fun and is simply an enthusiastic child in an adult body.
Shari has developed yoga programs for many schools and consultants on various healthy living articles for numerous Parenting Magazines, Target, Nickelodeon, Working Woman, as well as health and wellness and parenting blogs. She can also be found advocating for the Yoga For NY, Wellness in Schools, and Yoga for Peace organizations. She is also a presenter at the National Kids Yoga Conference and Yoga Journal Live. Shari is a regular contributor to NY Yoga + Life magazines Kids and Family section. Shari has been featured on Sesame Street sharing yoga with Murray and Ovejita at "yoga school"!
Shari is mom to yogini, Layla Moon, and practices yoga with her almost every day. Shari is inspired by the knowledge of her teachers, the creativity of her students, the kindness of her friends, and the love of her family, especially her husband, Jason.
Shari has trained over two thousand people around the world to teach yoga to children through the renowned Karma Kids Yoga Teacher Training Program. Many of them have started their own kids yoga programs. She has also trained hundreds of Preschool, Elementary, Middle and High School Educators through her Yoga in the Classroom, Yoga in the Preschool Classroom and Yoga For Test Prep courses, spreading the benefits of yoga into the public, charter, and private school systems. She also acts as a mentor to teachers around the world. Shari created the Teen Yoga Teacher Training Intensive, Baby Yoga & Developmental Movement Workshop, Yoga & Mindfulness for Stressed Out Teachers, and The Business of Kids Yoga Workshop.
